The Nanoscience Transforming STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Education at Hampton University (NanoHU) Program (funded by the National Science Foundation, or NSF), support a six-week (Mon-Fri) non-residential, research-intensive program where students are actively engaged projects in Interdisciplinary Nanoscience (NanoHU). The program aims to introduce participants to the practice of STEM-related, academic research in higher education. In so doing, active participants will learn about (1) emerging topics in science and technology that have global implications, and (2) the steps necessary to successfully contribute as professionals in the same. Students will conduct research under the supervision of a faculty research mentors, and go on field trips to local government laboratories (e.g. Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, NASA Langley, etc.). The summer program will culminate with a mandatory poster session where students will present the results of their summer research projects. Student participants may opt to continue their research throughout the subsequent academic year and are strongly encouraged to present their research results during the annual School of Science Research Day Symposium at Hampton University, which occurs during the spring semester.
